The Extension Cord

If I were asked to give a simple explanation of how I think Reiki works, it would be like this. If the client were a lamp, and the source energy were the wall socket, then the practitioner is the extension cord that connects the two.

Some would ask, why not just plug the lamp directly into the wall socket or the source. Sometimes, as we often find ourselves in life, we become too far from the source. The practitioner is neither the lamp nor the source but simply a conduit to connect and assist the energy to flow where it is needed at that time.

That certainly isn’t a scientific explanation, nor will it convince the occasional skeptic. It is however, a wonderful experience when it occurs. Not only has the client received healing energy from source but the practitioner often receives valuable insights that assists them in their Reiki journey. While every session is different, there is always something more to learn.

I look forward to helping more clients in 2024 and for the wonderful things in store for us all.

Again tomorrow…

Sometimes in the mornings when I think about the day ahead, I often wrestle with knowing that I would like to be somewhere, doing something else. I suppose it's because life becomes busy, and I forget how to relax and enjoy the many blessings set before me. Even though we're told to meditate or journal and live in the moment, we know we don't have the time. Those moments become so fleeting that they almost don't exist.

Placing ourselves in less hectic situations doesn't seem to change much. Our minds still run at warp speed even if we are somewhere calm and peaceful. Understanding how our brains process information can be enlightening. Prayer is always an option. Talking with a licensed professional about triggers or traumas can offer insights not noticed before, but the knowing is still there.

Might I suggest, giving ourselves permission to dream and not beating ourselves up when they don't all come true. Look for beauty as if you were an artist looking for the next masterpiece. Enjoy nature like there is medicine for your soul in the air. Show love like you've never been hurt by doing so and understand that sometimes, not knowing is for the best.

At the end of each day, I'm thankful for having survived. I'm glad if I can sit in silence and hear no thoughts in my mind. Even if I still have a longing for more, I remember that I've overcome that longing before. More important than all of that, I know that I might get another try tomorrow.
